Timely Thoughts – Del Edwards
My Mom wrote a series called Timely Thoughts for the Mandeville Weekly and we will include one each month in the Families for Christ Newsletter. Here is an interesting one:
A few nights ago, before retiring, my three-year-old grand-daughter ended her prayer with, Dear Lord: Bless everybody except Brandon and me. She really meant “especially Brandon and me”, but since she couldn’t remember the bigger word, she used a smaller on “Except”. What a good thing God understands”, I found myself thinking and smiling.
Children are not the only ones who make wrong requests in prayer. Adults do too, but an all-knowing God, who is fully aware of our thoughts, say in His word, (Romans 8:26, 27), 26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.

Families for Christ Missions – Del Edwards
As you know my Mom died on August 15, 2007. She left behind a legacy of great work which she started. One of these, Families for Christ Mission is a mission to the hurting and needy in Mandeville and it’s surrounding communities. Pastor Olando White now runs the mission. We welcome clothing, food, money which we pass on to the many persons who stop by each day. Christmas is coming and so children are looking forward to toys and we are planning a Christmas treat. Please contact me at 876 469-0942 if you can help.
We have now established a website and will be sending out newsletters starting November 2007.
God’s richest blessings.
JAGeddes – SHIFT
I woke up one morning recently, and I clearly heard the Lord speaking to me and saying it’s time to SHIFT. Ironically I was at that time choosing an organization to write a paper for my DBA course Organizational behaviour. I went to Kingston Bookshop in Liguanea and asked the young man to find a book featuring the CEO of a firm that was turned around recently. I left for the Post office and when I returned, the young man presented me with the book SHIFT – The Nissan story by Carlos Ghosn. I could not believe.
Anyway, I just went to the NISSAN website and this is how they use the word SHIFT to describe their organization. I believe that we can apply this to our own lives by varying the words a little.
SHIFT_. A single word that captures the passion and commitment that has driven Nissan. everything we touch, we shift. And everything we shift, we make better.
What does “SHIFT_” mean at Nissan?
SHIFT_ changes the way we look at things, the way we do things and the way we react to life around us. We are not afraid to take the lead or to stretch the boundaries in wider, better directions. When you change the way you look at the world, you will find that amazing things can happen. That’s the NISSAN spirit–SHIFT_.
WOW – doesn’t that sound great. Let us try to apply this to our daily lives.
JAGeddes Newsletter
We have been receiving very good feedback about the newsletters. Thanks to those of you who respond. We love to hear from you. November’s issue will continue the article on Stephen Covey’s 7 habits, and there will be a piece on how to manage change in today’s rapidly changing environment.
God Bless.
Book Review SHIFT by Carlos Ghosn
I am reading the story about Carlos Ghosn CEO of NISSAN in a book called SHIFT. Very enlightening. Tells the story of how a French company Renault managed to turnaround the Japanese company which was on the verge of bankruptcy. An excellent example of how one can change the culture of an organization for it’s own good. We are so tempted to accept the status quo and assume that people can’t change. This book provides the story of a great Lebanese Brazilian who broke through culture to win.
